The new Crewe town centre should to be completed between 2029 and 2031 says its developer, speaking exclusively to Nub News.

Capital & Centric, working on regeneration projects across the UK and predominantly across the North West, Yorkshire and the Midlands, will make its first move into Cheshire with plans for the Royal Arcade site.

The scheme, in partnership with Cheshire East Council, could bring around 500 "high-quality" new homes, along with commercial space for food and drink businesses, and as well as improved public spaces.

Capital & Centric's plans include the council-owned Chester Street Car Park and Delamere Street Car Park.

A mix of houses and apartments are proposed, with a mix of ground floor restaurants, bars, cafés and working spaces envisioned.

Potential leisure options and the return of a town clock ('Big Bill') have also been suggested.

Capital & Centric will "soon" launch a public consultation on plans for the three Crewe town centre sites, with all feedback welcomed.

Co-founder of Capital & Centric, Tim Heatley, told Nub News: "Crewe has huge amount of potential. It has been underinvested in and overlooked for so long, but we plan to help change that.

"We are confident the project can be completed in the next three to five years with three being optimistic and five being pessimistic.

"Currently, we are working on the boring paperwork in the background for this development, but we will soon be after the local community's ideas and suggestions in the form of a public consultation.

"We know Crewe has had many town centre developments fail to get off the ground. Capital and Centric has a track record for difficult projects, we always stay alert to financial challenges to prevent this.

"The Interest in Crewe town centre is huge. We want to create footfall day and night, with high quality, affordable homes pivotal in this.

"These new homes, made up of a mixture for sale and to rent, will create security and safety in the town centre and ensure there are always hundreds of people in this area.

"We plan for a limited focus on retail, as there are empty units already. We will focus on the likes of restaurants, bars, cafes and working spaces.

"There will also be potential for leisure options, especially if that is what the public raise in the consultation. Bringing back a town centre clock has also been suggested.

"As well as this, we plan for lots of public space, pocket parks and a square, making it an enjoyable space for all."

Capital & Centric updated local businesses on its Crewe town centre project in a recent event organised by the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, attended by Cheshire East's deputy leader, Cllr Michael Gorman.

The council is in the final stages of creating a 'meanwhile use' for Crewe's undeveloped Royal Arcade site, with seating, lighting, picnic areas, and flexible activity space opening to the public this summer.

All the new homes in the town centre will need parking spaces up to 3 cars per household , if they don't the paths will be used to park on , soon they will be damaged from the weight if the cars parking causing trip hazards and claims against the council

How much is all this going to cost.
Don't forget about inflation etc so what is the cost going to be in 4 years time,
Not at today's estimates,
And let's hope we don't hear the word sorry but half way through the project the firm nas gon BUST.

Crewe has ALWAYS been neglected, it is one of the easiest places to get to and from due to the railway. HS2 was taken from us despite spending millions on infrastructure. If this company can come up with the goods, brilliant, but we have been let down by local and county government so often, I'll believe it when I see it! My partner wanted to open his business in Crewe, the landlord wanted £30,000 per year in rent before a customer had walked through the door, he is now operating elsewhere.

You have it so wrong . We have lots of cafes and bars already in Crewe . What we really need in the town centre are more affordable retail units . We won't get them though as building housing is more profitable.

I checked what Cipper said, this company was involved in Bury so if he knows Bury I'll take his word for it.

But the image really does show that the bus station was built in the wrong place!

If it's similar to Bury Town center with the regeneration that took place then it'll do Crewe no harm.
