A new Crewe town centre shop with "quality handmade items" is eying more trade, after establishing a community of almost 300 on social media.

Woollees, Victoria Centre, was launched in 2022 by former Nantwich Market trader, Tina Cartwright, 61, with shop signs finally going up this July.

The new wool shop sells a variety of handmade items, as well as running a 'knit and natter' group every Tuesday.

Woollees is open 9am to 3pm (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday), closed Wednesday and Sunday (Ryan Parker).

"I have been here 12 months and previously ran Nantwich Market stall, Tina's Yarntopia, for two and a half years," said Miss Cartwright.

Woollees' knit and natter group runs from 1pm until 3pm each week, costing £3 per session with tea and coffee.

The Victoria Centre store also has a Facebook community group with members increasing each week.

Miss Cartwright told Nub News: "I was born in Crewe and have lived here most of my life. I had been looking at this unit for years, looking all empty and drab.

"I used to come to this shop for the former Scrivens opticians. It took me 12 months to get it and I was delighted to finally open last year.

Woollees sells a variety of handmade items, as well as running a 'knit and natter' group every Tuesday (Ryan Parker).

"Here we sell lots of items made with care, run a knit and natter group and sell some haberdashery.

"The knit and natter group allows knitters and fellow yarn artists to all get together, have a good chat and put the world to rights.

"There isn't a wool shop in Crewe. The Sewing Box, Heath Street, sells some haberdashery but not like what I sell.

"This is a proper family-run business. My daughter makes some things for me to sell as her little hobby."

Miss Cartwright believes not everyone is aware her shop is open in the town, now appealing to the wider community.

Woollees' knit and natter group runs from 1pm until 3pm every Tuesday, costing £3 per session with tea and coffee (Ryan Parker).

The shop owner loves her hometown and is proud to finally run her own business in it.

Miss Cartwright added: "Crewe is like a warm blanket to me. I have left and come back, living in Dartford, Kent, and Trent Vale in Stoke-on-Trent. I love it.

"People should come and try out Woollees because I have a wide variety of quality handmade items that you can't buy elsewhere.

"Those in the knit and natter group all contribute, as do my friends and family.

Woollees has a Facebook community group with members increasing each week (Ryan Parker).

"This is like a hobby to me, I absolutely love it. We will be promoting Woolees at Crewe Makers Markets."

Woollees is open 9am to 3pm (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday). It is closed Wednesday and Sunday.
