New Crewe Asda Express launches at site of former Co-op petrol station
A new Asda Express has launched at the site of a former Co-op with petrol station in Crewe, following two days of works.
Asda Express, Bradfield Road, officially opened at 5am on Wednesday 8 November, just 48 hours after Co-op Food - Petrol closed.
All Crewe Co-op staff have moved over to the new Crewe Asda Express store, which has been over one year in the making.
In 2022, Asda acquired 132 sites from the Co-op a £438m deal as part of its long-term strategy to become the UK's second largest supermarket.
VP of Convenience at Asda, Andy Perry, told Nub News: "We are incredibly excited to be bringing our Asda value and quality to the Crewe community with the conversion of the Co-op site.
"The roll out marks an incredibly exciting moment for our business and accelerates our presence in the fast-growing convenience market.
"We look forward to bringing Asda's great value in fuel and groceries to many more communities across the UK and to welcoming over 2,000 former Co-op colleagues to the Asda family in the coming months."
Other local Co-op's with petrol stations set to become an Asda Express include Saxon Cross, Sandbach and Middlewich Road, Holmes Chapel.
Crewe's Asda Express is one of 24 new stores to open across the UK this week, with the supermarket chain accelerating its expansion into the convenience market.
Asda Express is open 5am until midnight, seven days per week.
