A new Crewe Alexandra pop up shop has opened up inside a Crewe town centre venue - aiming to 'attract new fans' to the club.

Crewe Alexandra's independent Railwaymen Supporters Society (RSS), officially opened up the new pop up shop inside Crewe Market Hall on Thursday (August 25).

The shop is being run by the society's volunteers in collaboration with Crewe Alexandra Football Club.

Crewe Alexandra's Railwaymen Supporters Society officially opened up the new pop up shop inside Crewe Market Hall on Thursday - August 25 (Ryan Parker).

Chairman of the Railwaymen Supporters Society, Mr Mark Beavan, told Nub News: "We always wanted a presence in Crewe town centre, it's been talked about for a while.

"There are two things this society is really passionate about. One is Crewe Alexandra Football Club and the other is the local community.

"Where better to bring these two things together than Crewe Market Hall, which is the hub of Crewe again and how it should be."

The pop up shop currently sells Crewe Alexandra's home and away shirt, clothing, toys, souvenirs, the monthly Inside Crewe magazine and other football items.

The new Crewe Alexandra away shirt is available to purchase in the town centre shop (Ryan Parker).

Mr Beavan said: "A lot of football clubs are either very central to the town or they're way out of town.

"We've never actually had a proper presence in the town centre.

"If you wanted to buy something at the Alex or find out what's going on, you would have to find out on the club's website or come more out of town to the club shop.

"Hopefully this new shop will be a way of promoting everything going on with the club."

The pop up stall is going to have a collection point for the local food bank - something that is successful at Gresty Road at match days on a monthly basis.

Initiatives for a ticket collection point and the selling of match day tickets are in the pipeline for later in the year (Ryan Parker).

The society chairman added: "This shop is about engaging with the existing supporters and hopefully attracting new ones as well.

"A lot of people don't even know when Crewe are playing at home, so it's trying to get people aware that there is a local game to watch this weekend.

"I think this shop will be great towards Christmas as Crewe Market Hall will get even busier."

Railwaymen Supporters Society consultant, Mr Matt Owen, told Nub News Crewe Market Hall's manager, Gary Johnson told them about a unit available in the venue.

The Crewe Alexandra pop up shop is the latest stall to open inside Crewe Market Hall, Earle Street (Ryan Parker).

Mr Owen said: "He told me they had a unit available and I said that would be perfect for us.

"We then approached the club about potentially taking the unit. They thought it was a great idea.

"Here, we can engage with Crewe Alexandra supporters, hand out general ticket information and attract new fans."

A number of Crewe Alexandra players are expected to come down to the shop and entertain the kids.

Home mascot, Gresty The Lion, is also expected to make regular appearances at the venue.
