A New 5G telecoms mast proposal has been submitted for an area of Crewe - after 10 other locations were investigated and dismissed.

CEP Telecoms Ltd applied to install a new 5G mast on behalf of CK Hutchison Networks Ltd for Underwood Lane, Coppenhall, on Monday 6 February.

The proposed 5G telecoms mast would be located next to Shell Service Station entrance from Underwood Lane.

The telecoms mast would supply 5G coverage for Three network users in Coppenhall (Google).

There would be a 15-metre high street pole installed, supporting six antennas and one wraparound equipment cabinet at the base of the monopole.

The HG3 mast also includes two equipment cabinets, one electric meter cabinet and one GPS module.

CEP Telecoms submitted a design and access statement to Crewe Town Council and Crewe North Labour councillor, Cllr Jill Rhodes.

It reads: "There is a specific requirement for an installation at Underwood Lane, to ensure that the latest high quality 3G and 4G service provision is provided in this area of Crewe.

"The proposed column will also ensure that new 5G coverage can also be provided at this location.

"This ensures that coverage and capacity requirements are maintained."

CEP Telecoms investigated 10 other sites for a new 5G mast in Crewe.

This included different areas of West Street, Victoria Avenue, Sunnybank Road, Lodgefields Drive and Grasmere Avenue.

The majority were rejected for being too close to Crewe residential properties.

CEP Telecoms' design and access statement added: "This site will enable 5G coverage to be provided to this area of Coppenhall.

"The government recognises that widespread coverage of mobile connectivity is essential for people and businesses.

"That is why the government is committed to extending mobile geographical coverage further across the UK, with continuous mobile connectivity provided to all major roads and to being a world leader in 5G.

"This will allow everyone in the country to benefit from the economic advantages of widespread mobile coverage."

Pre-consultation letters and a set of plans for the new 5G mast have been sent to all Crewe North ward councillors and First Steps Pre-School and Nursery, Bradfield Road.

The last date for submitting comments is Wednesday 8 March with a target decision date of Sunday 2 April (Cheshire East Planning).
