A new 'reasonably priced' Crewe grocery store has opened its doors - exactly one month after an established local newsagents shut down.

AA Food and Wine, Gresty Road, officially opened on Thursday 23 March - just four weeks after South Street News permanently closed down.

The new grocery shop is run by Mr Gnanendran Arumugam - located opposite Crewe Alexandra Football Club.

"This is my second shop with News Food and Booze located nearby on Laura Way," said the 46-year-old.

AA Food and Wine is the first shop Mr Arumugam has had full ownership of - 18 years after coming to Crewe from Sri Lanka.

The Gresty Road business employs one other member of staff - primarily selling groceries and alcohol.

Mr Arumugam told Nub News: I am delighted to open AA Food and Wine. This is the first shop I have had full ownership of.

"Lots of customers have said the new shop is tidy, modern and reasonably priced. 

"It is in a good location next to Crewe Alexandra Football Club.

"We are open seven days per week. The shop is much-needed in the area after South Street News closed down."

AA Food and Wine is open seven days per week - offering chilled food and a PayPoint service.

The business owner wanted a store which would offer all the basic groceries - sold at 'reasonable' prices.

Mr Arumugam added: "This shop is all about grocery items and we also offer a PayPoint service. 

"The joint-owned Laura Street shop is very popular so I decided to open my business here on Gresty Road.

"People should shop here because we offer have decent prices and the shop is well organised. 

AA Food and Wine is open 7am to 11pm (Monday to Saturday) and 9am to 10pm (Sunday) (Ryan Parker).

"Overall, AA Food and wine is a modern shop in a great location for shoppers."
