The Crewe MP has attacked Cheshire East Council for fining local residents who parked on a town centre car park - on the morning of its closure.

Crewe & Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, criticised the council after it closed Oak Street Car Park today (August 22).

Cheshire East Council have issued a number of fines, despite drivers still being able purchase a ticket on the PayByPhone app - having no idea the car park was closed.

There are a number of white A4 notices on the Crewe car park - but no major signs.

Dr Mullan said: "Like many people, my staff using that car park use the app to pay. The car park should be disabled in the app for the duration of the closure."

"There are plain white A4 notices up which I would expect most people would not even see and even if you do use the pay and display machine, the notice isn't even on it.

"During COVID these machines were taped up."

Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan is furious local residents have been fined (Crewe Nub News).

Oak Street Car Park is closed today (August 22), tomorrow (August 23) and Wednesday (August 224).

The Crewe MP was most angered by parking officers allowing local residents to park - fining them once they had left the site.

Dr Mullan added: "What is even worse is parking attendants stood and watched people park, get out and head off and then fined them when it was clear they didn't know."

"That is totally unacceptable and I will be taking it up with Cheshire East.

"In the meantime, my team have put a prominent notice on the machine and we have tried to spread the word.

Oak Street Car Park is closed for three days until Thursday - August 25 (Ryan Parker).

"Anyone who got a ticket please get in touch as I will be challenging these."

Crewe Nub News has contacted Cheshire East Council for comment.
