MP Kieran Mullan is hosting a virtual Remembrance - one of several online events taking place around Crewe.

Crewe Town Council and the local branch of the Royal British Legion took the decision earlier this week to pull the plug on a "limited" physical ceremony which was scheduled for Memorial Square.

While RBL servicemen will be laying wreaths that have been dropped off at the town council office, there will be no service of any kind because of the national lockdown and the same applies in outlying villages.

But the Crewe and Nantwich MP wants people can come together and pay their respects online, while making donations to the legion.

He said "I know how important marking the event is for so many people. Like many others I feel very strongly that I want to mark it as a local community, so I would welcome anyone who wants to join our virtual event."

The MP has been working with the Crewe Branch of RBL, Crewe Brass Band, Crewe Sea Cadets and local students and churches to put on a Facebook live broadcast.

There will be readings and music from schoolchildren and the names of all those listed on the Crewe War Memorial will be displayed.

The virtual Remembrance can be watched from 10.45am on Sunday (November 8) via the following link (you do not need a Facebook account)

Other online events taking place include:

For Wistaston (3pm); go online here.

For Shavington (10.30am); go here.

For Willaston (1.30pm); go here.
