Connor Naismith MP has called out the local Reform Party for spreading false claims about supposed asylum accommodation in Crewe.

The Crewe and Nantwich Labour MP has revealed the local Reform UK Party is spreading misinformation about the status of supported accommodation sites in Crewe, falsely labelling them as housing asylum seekers.

In a Facebook post made on 12 March 2026, the Crewe & Nantwich Reform Party said that they held "serious concerns about the potential impacts of housing asylum seekers near Springfield School."

The post goes on to reference "relocating individuals from hotels into former student accommodation."

The former student accommodation in question is Booth Hall at Apollo Buckingham Health Science Campus, Beswick Drive, previously a campus for Manchester Metropolitan University.

Similar comments were made by Reform's candidate in the upcoming Crewe South by-election under a Facebook reel posted by Crewe Nub News about the Crewe Arms Hotel, being used as asylum accommodation at the time.

Under the video, the candidate posted a comment including the message: "The plans are to have more if rumours are correct at the [Manchester Metropolitan University] site."

However, these rumours were found to be untrue. The accommodation has been contracted out to the YMCA, using the halls to house vulnerable people from a variety of backgrounds.

This is for families with young children, veterans and people experiencing homelessness, all of whom have a right to be in the UK.

Mr Naismith has been in contact with the Home Office to confirm operations at the sites after the Crewe and Nantwich Reform Party wrote to his office referencing the same misinformation.

The government has since confirmed Booth Hall is not being used to house any asylum seekers.

Connor Naismith said: "It's a shame that the Reform Party chose to jump to conclusions about local people in our area instead of figuring out the truth.

"Crewe and Nantwich deserves better than candidates who will gamble with people's safety for votes."
