MORE Crewe cafes and restaurants have signed up with the government's 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme which started today.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak's initiative is proving popular and 15 more venues in the area have joined in the hope it will provide a boost to trade as lockdown eases.

Among those signing up are Crewe Hall Hotel, Riminis Coffee Lounge in Victoria Street and the Passage to India restaurant in Nantwich Road.

The scheme offers diners 50 per cent discounts off food and non-alcoholic drinks from Monday to Wednesday with the venues deducting the money off diners' bills and then claiming it back from the government.

Customers don't have to order food to be eligible and there is no minimum spend, but the maximum discount available is £10 per person.

The offer does not require a voucher and runs from today (August 3) to August 31.
