Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was punched in the face by a cyclist - in an 'appalling' West End assault.

At around 11.44am on Monday 20 March, a man in his 70s walked onto the pavement on West Street between Dunwoody Way and Underwood Lane when a man cycled past him on the pavement.

This startled the elderly man. The suspect then got off his bike and punched the victim in the face.

The suspect is described as a white man, dressed all in black, with his hood up, with yellow across the body of the top.

He had a bag and was riding a bright green mountain bike.

PC Nicola Anderton said: "The victim was left shocked and shaken by his ordeal.

"To assault anyone, especially an elderly man is appalling.

"I hope this will spur people into contacting us if they know who the suspect is or has any information that would help us find the person responsible.

"Maybe you were driving past around this time and have dashcam footage, or saw the incident take place. I'd urge anyone with information to contact us."

Anyone with information should contact Cheshire Police on 101 or via the website quoting IML 1504503

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by contacting Crmestoppers on 0800 555 111.
