Man charged after 'threatening to kill officers' with a knife in West End

A man has been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place, after "threatening to kill officers" with a knife in the West End of Crewe.

On Monday 14 August, Cheshire Police received reports of criminal damage on Derby Street.

At around 8am, response taser officers arrived at the scene, with a man unrelated to the incident becoming abusive towards them when biking past.

The 32-year-old man threatened to kill officers with a knife on Derby Street and used racially abusive language towards them (Google).

Officers chased the man on foot, who became hostile and produced a knife.

Taser officers physically detained the man, who was arrested.

The man has been remanded in custody.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "Officers attended a call regarding a criminal damage on Derby Street.

"Whilst at the location an unrelated male became abusive to the officers as he was biking past. 

"After a search officers located him again and chased him down on foot. This time the male became hostile producing a knife.

"He threatened to kill officers with the knife and used racially abusive language.

"The taser officers physically detained and arrested the male.  

Robert Lightfoot, 32, has been remanded in custody (Cheshire Police).

"Robert Lightfoot, 32, of Oxford Street, has been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place and racially aggravated public order.

"He has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Monday 21 August.
