A Crewe man has been charged after attempting to drive their car at a pedestrian in the town, moments after assaulting them in the street.

On Monday 13 November, Cheshire Police received reports of a serious incident on Meredith Street.

At around 9pm, officers arrived at scene, discovering a male pedestrian had been assaulted and driven at.

A member of the public was punched in the face and driven at by a BMW driver, after challenging them over their speed (Nub News).

The pedestrian had witnessed a BMW been driven "erratically" on Meredith Street, challenging the driver over their speed.

A man then got out of the vehicle, pushing the pedestrian, before punching them in the face, causing injury.

He then got back into his car and attempted to drive at the pedestrian, before driving off from the scene.

Florin Popa, 27, from Crewe, was tracked down by police to his home address and arrested.

The Crewe man has since been charged with assault by beating and driving without insurance.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "On Monday 13 November at 9pm, a BMW was driving erratically on Meredith Street.

"A member of the public shouted at the driver and challenged him over his speeding.

"Then the driver pushed him and punched him to the face causing injury. 

"He then got back into his car and tried driving at the member of the public before driving off.

Florin Popa, 27, from Crewe, has been charged with assault by beating and driving without insurance (Cheshire Police).

"Officers were dispatched to the incident and tracked down the vehicle and driver back to his home address. 

"Florin Popa, 27 from Crewe, has been arrested and charged with assault by beating and driving without insurance.

"He will appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 19 December."
