Man arrested following 'suspicious' registration plates incident in Crewe

On Tuesday 27 February, Cheshire Police received reports of a male removing registration plates from a  "suspicious' vehicle at the side of the road in Weston (Cheshire Police).

A Birmingham man has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and having no insurance, following an incident in Crewe.

On Tuesday 27 February, Cheshire Police received reports of a male removing registration plates from a "suspicious' vehicle at the side of the road in Weston.

In the evening, officers located the vehicle and driver, discovering two different sets of registration plates.

Cheshire Police discovered two sets of registration plates, with neither matching the vehicle (Cheshire Police).

Police found neither registration plate matched the vehicle, with the driver arrested at the scene.

The man, aged 36, from Birmingham, remains in police custody.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "On the evening of Tuesday 27 February, we received reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Weston, where a male was seen removing registration plates at the side of a road.

"Crewe Response Team located the vehicle and occupant, two different sets of registration plates were found and neither were matching the vehicle.

A Birmingham man, 36, was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and having no insurance (Cheshire Police).

"A male, 36, from Birmingham, has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and having no insurance policy in place.

"The male remains in police custody."
