Man arrested after 'making threats to kill' staff with knives at West End GP surgery

A 60-year-old man has been arrested after "making threats to kill" staff at a Crewe medical centre, after wielding two knives in broad daylight.

On Tuesday 29 August, Cheshire Police received multiple reports of a man entering Grosvenor Medical Centre, Grosvenor Street, off West Street, producing two knives.

At around 3:45pm, the man threatened to kill Crewe medical staff with the weapons.

No injuries were reported from the Grosvenor Medical Centre incident with police labelling the Crewe medical staff as 'courageous' (Grosvenor Medical Centre).

Staff managed to evacuate people from the building, with internal panic alarms alerting police.

Response taser officers, firearms officers and specialist units quickly arrived at the scene, detaining and arresting the man in swift fashion.

The two knives were seized by officers, with police continuing to investigate the man's motive behind the threats.

No injuries were reported from the West End incident, with police labelling the Crewe medical staff as "courageous."

On social media, a Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 3:45pm on Tuesday 29 August, we received multiple reports of a male who had entered Grosvenor Medical Centre, Grosvenor Street, who had been threatening towards staff.

The two knives were seized by officers, with police continuing to investigate the arrested man's motive behind the threats to medical staff (Cheshire Police).

"He then produced two large knives, making threats to kill. 

"Staff managed to evacuate people from the building and internal panic alarms were pressed alerting police. 

"Response taser officers, firearms officers and specialist units made to the location where the male was detained and arrested.

"Two large knives have been recovered from the scene. 

"The investigation is continuing and the motive for the threats are unknown. 

Grosvenor Medical Centre took the decision to close for the rest of day on Tuesday 29 August, opening as normal on Wednesday 30 August (Google).

"Luckily no injuries have been reported from the courageous medical staff or any other persons."

Following the incident, Grosvenor Medical Centre took the decision to close the facility for the rest of day, opening as normal on Wednesday 30 August.
