POLICE say they brought a man "to safety" after an incident at Crewe Rail Station last night.

Nantwich Road was closed in both directions around the station as officers dealt with the incident and train services were disrupted.

They were called out after 5pm yesterday because of concerns for the safety of the man.

Northern rail services along with those run by Transport for Wales, Avanti West Coast, East Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway were all affected for several hours with bus replacements in place in some cases.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Transport Police officers were called to Crewe railway station following concerns for the welfare of a man.

"Officers attended, and the man was taken to a place of safety."
