A man has been arrested after stealing a vehicle from a property in Crewe and leading police into a car chase across the town, eventually abandoning it in nearby fields.

On Saturday 2 November, Cheshire Police received reports of a group acting suspiciously near a property off Broughton Road, Coppenhall.

Around 2.45am, officers received reports a vehicle had been stolen from the area.

Local officers were supported by a police helicopter and the dog unit in attempting to track down the stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was soon sighted on the A530 Middlewich Road, failing to stop for officers.

Soon, the car was abandoned in nearby fields, with the male suspect making a run for it.

Following a search, police located the man, arresting him on suspicion of multiple offences.

The stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "A male from Crewe was arrested on Saturday 2 November, after a vehicle was reported to have been stolen.

"At approximately 2.45am, we received reports of a group acting suspiciously near a property off Broughton Road. We then received reports a vehicle had been taken.

Following a search, Cheshire Police located the man, arresting him on suspicion of multiple offences (Cheshire Police).

"Multiple patrols, including dog patrols and air support made to the area.

"The vehicle was sighted by patrols on the A530 and failed to stop. The driver then decamped into nearby fields.

"After a search a male suspect, 22, was located and arrested by patrols for various offences. The vehicle in question was recovered by police."
