Male arrested for carrying knife following reports of 'potential gang related activity' in Crewe
A male has been arrested for carrying a knife in Crewe - following reports of "potential gang related activity" in an area of the town.
The incident on Nantwich Road, happened around 7pm on Saturday 17 June.
Cheshire Police officers rushed to the CW2 area of town - finding "a large group of youths."
Officers discovered a knife in the possession of one of the members of the group.
A male was arrested at the scene, with police urging the public to remain vigilant.
Later that evening, Cheshire Police released a statement on social media - confirming the incident.
The statement read: "Officers had been dispatched to the Nantwich road area of Crewe after reports of potential gang related activity.
"A large group of youths had been located in the area, resulting in a knife being found and a male arrested.
"Thanks for the numerous calls from the public.
"Anyone with any other information regarding this dispute either contact 101 or call in anonymously on crimestoppers. Thank you."
This arrest came after Cheshire Police confirmed there had been over 160 incidents recorded in the Crewe Policing area within the past 24 hours (June 16 to 17).
That roughly averages an incident the town every nine minutes.
Crewe Police warned 999 hoax calls are becoming a common occurrence, which is a criminal offence.
