A major road in Crewe has fully reopened following over three weeks of emergency works, with a giant sinkhole now repaired.

United Utilities had been repairing the 20-foot sinkhole on Middlewich Street, which appeared on Monday 29 July.

Middlewich Street finally reopened on Friday 23 August, after United Utilities completed works on a section of sewer, causing the road collapse.

The closure also affected access to Charlesworth Street, Micklewright Avenue and Sherborne Road from Middlewich Street.

United Utilities had been repairing the 20-foot sinkhole on Middlewich Street, which appeared on Monday 29 July (Ryan Parker).

A diversion was put in place to try and minimise disruption around the Middlewich Street area of Crewe.

Vehicular access was maintained maintained for emergency vehicles and residents where possible.

United Utilities told Nub News it would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused while these "essential works" took place.
