Major highway improvement works have commenced at a Crewe town centre junction, allowing for a "high-risk" zebra crossing to be relocated.
Vernon Way, at its junction with Earle Street and Earle Street, outside Crewe Municipal Buildings, closed for four days on Monday 29 January.
This full closure allows for footpath widening works to take place, improving accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
On Friday 2 February, these roads will reopen, with single lane closures beginning on Vernon Way and Earle Street junction.
These single lane closures, running until Saturday 24 February, allow for the relocation of the current zebra crossing on Vernon Way.
The crossing will be moved further down the road, with the central island being extended.
From Saturday 18 February to Sunday 19 February and Saturday 25 February to Sunday 26 February. Overnight road closures will be taking place at Earle Street Roundabout
These will operate between 5pm and 6am, allowing resurfacing and lining works.
These roadworks are part of the Safer Roads Funds, tackling the 50 highest risk road sections in England.
A Cheshire East Council statement read: "We will be upgrading the current zebra crossing on Vernon Way. Single lane closures will be in place from 29 January until 24 February.
"The zebra crossing will be moved further down the road, and we will be extending the central island, and widening the footway.
"We will also be carrying out resurfacing works which will take place under two Sunday night road closures on 18 and 25 February between 5pm and 6pm.
"The road will be closed from Vernon Way/West Street traffic lights to the Tesco roundabout, Earle Street and over the railway bridge to Brierley Street junction.
"These works are part of the Safer Roads Funds, which is for road safety improvement schemes to reduce the number and severity of fatal and serious injury collisions on the 50 highest risk road sections in England.
"The level of risk is based on the Road Safety Foundation's analysis and report on road safety nationally."
