A major road in Crewe remains closed in the day until August 22, allowing a full resurfacing to take place.

Remer Street, between Middelewich Street and Elm Drive, is closed between 8am and 5pm from Thursday 7 August until Friday 22 August.

The works follow the announcement of a record £53 million investment in Cheshire East Council's transport infrastructure for 2025/26, the largest in a decade.

This funding focuses on improving road conditions, enhancing safety, and prioritising routes that have the greatest impact on local communities.

In July, Bradfield Road and North Street were resurfaced, with Remer Street works completing the 1.6-mile stretch of road (with the exception of Broad Street Roundabout (Heron Foods).

Chair of Cheshire East Council's highways and transport committee, Cllr Mark Goldsmith, said: "We know roadworks can be disruptive, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience they may cause.

"This £53 million investment is the biggest we have made in ten years.

"While it won't fix every road, it means we can make real improvements in the places that need it most, helping to make everyday journeys safer and smoother.

"We plan this work carefully and coordinate with utility companies and other partners to reduce disruption as much as possible."
