A major Crewe road junction is set to fully close for four days next week, allowing traffic signal upgrades to take place.

Gresty Road, at its junction with Nantwich Road, will be closed from Monday 14 August until Friday 18 August.

From August 18, three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place at the junction until Thursday 24 August.

The five-week traffic signal programme in the Nantwich Road area will be completed by Friday 1 September (Ryan Parker).

These works, carried about by Cheshire East Highways, are part of a five-week traffic signal upgrades programme in the Nantwich Road area.

Four-way temporary traffic signals are currently in place at the South Street/Mill Street junction, lasting until Friday 11 August.

Following the Gresty Road junction works, Cheshire East Highways will work on the Nantwich Road/Edleston Road junction.

Three-way temporary traffic lights signals will be in place from 24 August until Friday 1 September.

A Cheshire East spokesperson said: "We will be carrying out traffic signal upgrades on Nantwich Road, Crewe and and the surrounding junctions including South Street, Mill Street, Gresty Road and Edleston Road.

The works, carried out by Cheshire East Highways, are part of a five-week traffic signal upgrades programme in the Nantwich Road area (Ryan Parker).

"We will also be introducing controlled crossing facilities at the junctions of Nantwich Road/South Street and Nantwich Road/Gresty Road.

"The works are due to start on 31 July 2023 for approximately five weeks.

"The upgrades will help to ease congestion, reduce travel times and aim to improve air quality in the area.

"This project is supported by the government's Future High Streets Fund, following the council's successful bid for a total of £14.1m of funding.

Cheshire East Highways will begin work on the Nantwich Road/Edleston Road junction from Thursday 24 August (Ryan Parker).

"To help minimise disruption, we have carefully planned the work to take place during school summer holidays."

Local businesses remain open as usual during the traffic signal works, with access being maintained to properties at all times.
