British books and stationery chain permanently closes Crewe town centre store
A major British retailer has permanently closed its Crewe town centre store - just hours after the venue's Post Office shut down.
WHSmith, Victoria Shopping Centre, permanently closed down at 5:30pm on Thursday 30 March.
This closure came just hours after Crewe Town Post Office shut down within the WHSmith unit at 12pm.
Both Crewe town centre closures were announced in December after WHSmith confirmed it could no longer 'trade viably' from Victoria Shopping Centre.
A WHSmith spokesperson told Nub News: "We can confirm that the WHSmith store in Crewe will be closing in March 2023.
"Unfortunately, we are unable to continue to trade viably from this location and the decision has been taken to close the store as a result of the forthcoming lease expiry.
"We are currently in discussion with Post Office Limited so they have time to find a suitable franchise partner to ensure continuity of Post Office services within the town.
"We are disappointed to be losing our presence in Crewe and remain very thankful to our customers for their support.
"We are also extremely grateful for the commitment of our in store colleagues who we will support with this transition and redeploy to nearby stores, where possible."
WHSmith currently has two stores inside Crewe Railway Station - with one accessible from the Nantwich Road entrance.
Crewe Town's Post Office's closure will only be temporary with a new 'applicant' close to being confirmed.
Crewe Nub News has contacted WHSmith for comment on its official closure.
