Tennis club in urgent race to secure £15k by 6 April
By Ryan Parker/Jonathan White 16th Feb 2026
Time is running out for Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club, with the local community's help urgently needed.
Founded in 1977 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee, the club now has around 100 members, playing on its two floodlit courts behind Wistaston Memorial Hall and Community Centre on Church Lane.
With a welcoming clubhouse, changing facilities and outdoor seating, it has long been a hub for local sport. Now, the future of those courts hangs in the balance.
The club has successfully secured £15,000 from Sport England to resurface its two courts, essential work to provide a safe, modern playing surface for members and the wider community.
But there's a catch. The funding must be matched by Monday 6 April or the £15,000 will be lost.

That means the club must urgently raise £15,000 through its live Crowdfunder campaign — and every single pound counts.
Donations from residents, families, former players and supporters are being urged, while local businesses are invited to sponsor a courtside billboard, gaining valuable exposure while backing grassroots sport at the heart of the community.
Club captain and coach, George Raiswell, told Nub News: "Our club has always been inclusive and welcoming, offering opportunities for all ages and abilities, from beginners to competitive team players.
"We've secured £15,000 from Sport England, which is fantastic news. But we now need to match it by 6 April to make this project a reality.
"With the community's help, we can transform these courts into a modern facility everyone can enjoy. Tennis builds fitness, confidence and mental wellbeing — it's a sport for life.
"This isn't just about resurfacing courts; it's about investing in a community space Wistaston can be proud of for years to come.
"Every donation truly makes a difference. Thank you for supporting the club and helping us create the tennis facilities our community deserves."
Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club also plans to introduce a new pay-and-play scheme, opening the courts up to non-members and widening access to the sport locally.
The campaign has received backing from Crewe and Nantwich MP Connor Naismith, who has pledged to raise awareness and explore further funding avenues ahead of the fast-approaching deadline.
Now the message is simple: Donate if you can. Share if you're able. Help protect grassroots sport in Wistaston.
