Residents evacuated as Crewe home cordoned off in serious welfare incident

Local residents were evacuated and a Crewe home remains cordoned off, following a serious welfare incident involving a man for almost 12 hours.
On Tuesday 17 March, emergency services were alerted to an incident at an address on Drayton Crescent, off Coleridge Way.
At 2.30pm, a large Cheshire Police, North West Ambulance Service and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service presence was deployed to the scene.
Officers engaged with the male, who barricaded the door for several hours, closing the street and evacuating neighbours.
The man was detained around 2.20am on Wednesday 18 March and taken to Leighton Hospital.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At around 2.30pm on Tuesday 17 March, police were called to concerns for the welfare of a man at an address Drayton Crescent in Crewe.
"Officers attended the scene and engaged with the man for several hours.
"The man was later detained by officers and taken to Leighton Hospital.
"Drayton Crescent was closed while officers dealt with the incident, and a scene remains in place at this time."
