Crewe photographer and college worker 'proud' to win prestigious village award

A Crewe photographer and college worker has said they are 'proud' to have won a prestigious village award - after being chosen by local members of the public.

Jonathan White, aged 51 from Wistaston, has won the award of 'Wistonian of the Year' for 2022.

Mr White began his voluntary community journalism hobby in 2006 and has submitted several hundred stories and photographs relating to Wistaston to the local media.

This includes Wistaston's quarterly 'Roundabout' magazine and writing for Crewe Nub News.

Mr White has covered Wistaston's Village Fete, Model Boat and Duck Race, Fireworks, Wistaston in Bloom, St Mary's Church, Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club, and events at Wistaston Memorial Hall.

He also writes and takes photographs at events in Crewe, Nantwich, Willaston, Wybunbury and Acton.

Mr White estimates he has produced over 2,000 stories in the past seventeen years with plenty more to come in the future.

He is also the official club photographer at Nantwich Town FC.

Jonathan White works as a learning support assistant at Crewe's Cheshire College - South & West, Dane Bank Avenue (Ryan Parker).

Mr White told Nub News: "I am proud to be Wistonian of the Year 2022.

"I hope my reporting showcases the many positive activities that take place over the year in our village."

Wistonian of the Year is chosen by nominations from members of the public through 'Roundabout' magazine and nowadays also via the Wistaston Community Council Facebook page.

The nominations are then considered by Wistaston Community Council selection committee for the award.

Jonathan White will receive a commemorative shield and badge for his Wistaston award (Nub News).

The winner of the award has usually contributed to village life over several years or has recently done something that is notably worthy and deserving of recognition.
