Local community radio station broadcasts from Crewe vaccination centre

By Gwyn Griffiths 26th Jan 2022

COMMUNITY radio station The Cat held a broadcast from a celebrated Crewe vaccination centre.

Presenter Gary Johnson presented the station's Saturday Sports Show (January 22) from Crewe Honda Centre and was joined live on air by Roger Morris, the dealership owner who transformed his premises into a jabs hub on West Street a year ago.

Roger received The Cat's 'Local Legend Award' for his extra special efforts, going above and beyond to support the local community during the pandemic.

The centre celebrated the milestone of one year of administering life-saving jabs at the weekend. Over the last year over 100,000 jabs have been administered from within its walls.

The premises, which have been in the Morris family for more than 100 years, were undergoing a renovation when Roger teamed up with pharmacy owner and friend Raj Patel of nearby Hollowood Chemists.

Roger has declined to take any rental payment for his site as a gesture to help the local community in the fight against the pandemic.

He said: "It was great to welcome The Cat FM with Gary Johnson. We had a fantastic time celebrating 12 months of giving life-saving jabs to the local community."

Gary added: "It was an absolute pleasure for me, Neil Davis, Eva Davis and Conor Howard to be able to present the Cat 107.9 FM Sports Show from Roger's fantastic premises in West Street, Crewe. Roger, Julie, and the team made us incredibly welcome.

"The initiative that Roger and his good friend Raj Patel have put together, supported by the brilliant NHS, just demonstrates the great results that can be achieved when communities work in unison.

"As the local community radio station, we were immensely proud to help raise awareness of the project with our outside broadcast programme."
