SUPERMARKET giant Lidl has launched a recruitment drive as work on its new Crewe store draws to completion.
The German discount chain is looking to hire a deputy store manager as well as customer assistants for the new outlet, which is part of a major retail and housing development off Mill Street and Lockitt Street.
The store manager role could attract a salary of £38,000 if the successful applicant works a 47.5 hour week, with Lidl describing the jobs as "not only being hands-on. This is being switched on".
The supermarket adds: "Our deputy store managers keep our stores running like clockwork, working on the shop floor with a driven team of customer assistants, specialists and shift managers."
Work started on the Lidl store, a B&M garden centre and a drive-thru coffee outlet last year and was to be completed by February of this year. Lidl has confirmed its store will open this summer.
Planning permission for the retail development along with 72 affordable homes and a 272-space car park was granted by Cheshire East planners in 2019 after a previous application by developer CWC was rejected.
The housing development will include a plaque in memory of late Crewe councillor Dorothy Flude, who insisted the town's railway heritage was marked in the scheme. It is to be placed in a boundary wall made of reclaimed bricks from a former Victorian rail shed that was on the land.
A Lidl spokesperson said: "We can confirm that the store on Mill Street in Crewe is set to open this summer and recruitment is underway with some initial hires already being made.
"We are currently advertising some more roles and so would encourage anyone interested to apply and keep an eye out for vacancies on our careers website."
