Kitchen fire safety warning after crews tackle blaze at Hough home
FIRE officers have issued a warning about kitchen safety after they attended a house in Hough near Crewe last night.
Two fire engines from Crewe Fire Station were called out to the home at The Brooklands shortly before 9pm.
On arrival they found a fire involving an electric grill which had been caused by a build up of food deposits in the tray.
The fire was out on arrival, but firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to ensure it was fully extinguished before conducting an inspection of the property.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "More than half of accidental fires at home are started by cooking - often when cookers and grills are left unattended.
"So double check the cooker is off when you've finished cooking. Keep the oven, hob and grill clean and in good working order as a build up of fat and grease can ignite a fire.
"Also take care when cooking with hot oil as it sets alight easily.
"And don't tackle the fire yourself. Get out, stay out and call 999."
