In his latest column for Nub News MP Kieran Mullan calls for bright ideas to regenerate Crewe's pocket parks

By Gwyn Griffiths 13th Nov 2022

As you may be aware from one of my previous columns, Crewe has been awarded a £22.9 million Crewe Town Deal to regenerate our community.

I campaigned really hard for us to get a Town Deal because I knew what kind of difference it could make to Crewe.

We have some really great ways to make use of this funding locally. For example we will regenerate Flag Lane Baths by bringing this building back into use as a community centre.

The funding is also paying to build a new home for South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club at the old Mirion Street Youth Club site. There will be a pot of money to help to get empty shops back into use to regenerate our high street.

There is also a joint project between Cheshire College and local ice cream van manufacturer Whitby Morrison that will see the refurbishment of an ice cream van, which would then be run by students as part of their catering studies at the same time as showcasing this amazing part of Crewe's heritage.

MP Kieran Mullan has launched an online survey.

This is all in addition to what I wanted to write about in this column – the pocket parks project.

Eight pocket parks in Crewe – Queen Street, Derby Docks, McLaren Street, School Crescent, Samuel Street, Lime Tree Avenue, Valley Park and Westminster Street – will receive investment to become more attractive and better equipped spaces for people to spend time, play and enjoy physical activity.

As your MP I want you to have a say on how exactly the money is spent on the parks. I can share your views with the team designing the upgrades. Getting your views is really important to make sure we get a good sample of opinion.

Have a look at draft designs for four of the parks and fill in the survey online.

What is it that you want to see? More benches? More bins? More play equipment or may wild flower areas?

There are lot of options to choose from and I am looking forward to seeing what you think just be top of the list!
