Crewe Alexandra have confirmed a future Slovakian football star has signed a long-term deal with the club - potentially running until 2027.

Matus Holicek celebrated his 18th birthday on Wednesday (January 25) - by putting pen to paper on a new contract.

The midfielder's agreement runs until summer 2025 and includes an option for a further two years.

Matus Holicek joined Crewe Alexandra at the age of nine and has shone when progressing through the ranks (Crewe Alex).

Holicek told Crewe Alexandra's website: "I'm delighted and grateful to everyone who has supported me, my family, coaches, and everyone else along the way.

"It's very exciting and I just can't wait to put in more hard work and see where it takes me."

Holicek joined Crewe Alexandra at the age of nine and has shone when progressing through the ranks.

The Slovakian youth international is described as a creative and forward-thinking midfielder with an eye for goal.

Holicek was awarded his first professional deal as a 17-year-old.

The 18-year-old starred in the club's FA Youth Cup exploits this season - scoring four goals in three matches.

Holicek made his first-team debut in the Papa John's Trophy penalty shoot-out victory over Leeds United in November.

The midfielder has been among the Alex substitutes on numerous occasions for League Two fixtures.

Holicek he has joined fellow homegrown teenagers Zac Williams, Connor O'Riordan, Joel Tabiner, and Connor Evans, in committing their future to the club.
