A RUDOLPH painting by a five-year-old Haslington school girl has won an MP's Christmas Card competition.

Jasmine Nugent had her painting of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer picked out by Crewe and Nantwich MP Kieran Mullan to adorn his official festive card, which will be sent to Prime Minister Boris Johnson among others.

Three-runner up designs will also feature on the inside of the card.

Those were created by Mesha Lea, 12, from Sir William Stanier School, Xanthe Lewis, 10, from Bridgemere C of E Primary School and Riley Houston, 11, from Wistaston Academy Primary.

The MP said "All the designs were fantastic but Jasmine's Rudolph captured a lot of people's imagination.

"We had more than 1,000 votes in total on Facebook and on the website, so I'd like to say well done to our winner and runners-up and to everyone that entered.

"Christmas is difficult this year, so it is great to have the whole community getting into the Christmas spirit and giving local schoolchildren a chance to see their designs being sent to the Prime Minister and others as their MP's official card."

Jasmine attends Dingle Primary School in Haslington and her mother, Andrea, said "All the cards were fantastic. Art and especially painting has helped Jasmine so much through some of the difficult situations lockdown has imposed.

"She is very happy and excited and we are exceptionally proud of her."

As well as being used as the design for the official MP's card an additional 250 cards are being made available to the public to raise donations for CVS Cheshire East's Christmas Toy Appeal 2020, which benefits a number of charities in Crewe and Nantwich.

If you would like to purchase cards (priced at one for £2 or three for £6) you can go to the MP's website.

Crewe Nub News is sponsoring these cards so 100 per cent of the proceeds can go to charity.
