HAIRDRESSERS proved a cut above the rest when they visited Hough and District WI to stage a demonstration of age-defying styles.

Team members from Steven Burgin travelled to Hough and District WI with a minibus of salon clients to show off looks to compliment face shapes and turn back the clock.

They demonstrated cutting techniques and colours on long and short styles and several WI members were given a make-over while all received a discount voucher to use in the Nantwich salon.

Steve, a hairdresser for over 40 years, said: "Before the pandemic we regularly took a roadshow to local groups and it was lovely to get back out again as special guests of the WI.

"We took along 18 salon clients of varying ages whose hair had been worked on earlier in the day. We were keen to put across that hair is ageless and nowadays anything goes.

"An asymmetric cut or disconnected multi-layered bob looks good on any age. There are really no restrictions and we were delighted with the warm welcome and applause from the group."

The salon has clients aged 15 to 90 on its books and has notched up many awards for excellence over the years.

Helping to demonstrate the styles were salon manager Denise Hartley, style director Yvette Hinde and its latest recruit, 16-year-old trainee hairdresser Francesca Leigh.

Hough and District WI President Jill Kitchen said: "We were delighted to welcome Steve and team as our first guests since restrictions were lifted. We look forward to many more occasions when we can share the expertise and knowledge of our visitors."

The group, founded in 1966, meets every first Tuesday of the month at Hough Village Hall on Cobbs Lane. New members are welcome.

Just lately the group has been litter picking on Hough Common and enjoyed a nature trail round Wybunbury Moss while its 55th birthday was marked with a vintage tea at the village hall.

On November 11 they visit the John Ryland Library in Manchester and on December 7 they have Christmas dinner at Crewe Golf Club.
