A fourth-generation Crewe Indian restaurant is temporarily unable to trade, because of an ongoing dispute over its premises.

Bombay Restaurant, which has operated in the town for 67 years, stopped trading on Mill Street this September.

Owner, Raz Hoque said: "The restaurant is temporarily unable to trade due to an ongoing premises dispute and the matter is being dealt with urgently by solicitors."

A notice has been placed at the property under Section 12 of the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977.

The notice, dated September 28, is addressed to Lucky Nardana Ahmed, formerly of 33-35 Mill Street, and was issued by Crewe Estates Limited, the landlord.

It states that goods belonging to the former occupier are being held at the premises and are ready for delivery.

The notice gives October 19, 2026 as the final date for the goods to be collected.

It also states that at least five business days' notice must be given to the landlord of the date on which the goods will be collected.

The notice says the landlord proposes to sell or otherwise dispose of the goods after October 19 if they have not been collected.

It does not set out details of the wider premises dispute.

Although Bombay has always been described as an Indian restaurant, the business is of Bangladeshi origin.

It first opened in 1959 at its original premises on Mill Street.

The business moved to High Street in 1966, where it remained for decades.

The High Street premises closed in 2012 when Bombay relocated back to Mill Street, returning to where the business began.

Bombay has operated as a takeaway and delivery-only business since the Covid pandemic.

However, the family has continued to hope to reopen the restaurant for dine-in customers.
