Four-way roadworks 'causing a lot of inconvenience' at a busy Crewe junction are going to be completed later than anticipated - confirmed a local councillor.

The roadworks at the junctions of Crewe Road, Rope Lane and Brookland Avenue, Wells Green, have been going on since Friday (August 5).

Cadent Gas has been carrying out emergency gas works under the highway authority of Cheshire East Council.

The multi-way signals were initially anticipated to be completed this week. This is now not the case.

Yesterday (August 23), Willaston and Rope councillor, Cllr Allen Gage, confirmed the roadworks setback on social media.

The Conservative councillor posted on Facebook, saying: "Although these works are not in the Willaston and Rope ward, they are causing a lot of inconvenience for residents, especially in Rope.

"Unfortunately, Cadent Gas anticipate that these works will continue until 30 August due to locating numerous complicated escapes from their apparatus that needed urgent repair."

Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan shared the councillor's post, adding: "Update from local Cllr on the junction works at Wells Green."

Cllr Gage added: "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but hopefully this information will help people plan their commutes accordingly.

"Hopefully everything will be resolved and made safe quicker than anticipated. Drive safe."

Today (August 24), a Cadent gas engineer at the site told Nub News: "We are making progress and will move on to another section of the works shortly.

"I haven't been on the site for the whole duration of the works but I know how difficult traffic can be around Crewe.

"This junction in particular is a nightmare with roadworks. We want to get it done before the kids go back to school."
