Former Crewe resident releases debut children's book from California
A former Crewe resident has published his debut children's book from California, available to purchase from Amazon UK now.
David Thomson, 48, who was born in Irvine, Scotland, and grew up in Holmes Chapel, released 'The Amazing Bouncing Ball' this year.
Living in Bakersfield, California, since 2009, Thomson's debut story is already delighting young readers with its imaginative and adventurous theme.
Father-of-one, Thomson was inspired to create a book capturing the excitement of childhood discovery.
Told to him by father, William Thomson (Bill) as a child, The Amazing Bouncing Ball follows the journey of a magical ball that goes on a whirlwind adventure of its own, eventually returning home to its owner.
The Amazing Bouncing Ball is aimed at children from age two to seven and encourages kids to see magic in everyday objects.
David told Nub News: "The story was inspired by one my dad used to tell about a ball that bounced all over the place.
"I wasn't a strong reader or writer at schoo, I left with just my GCSEs, but over time, I started reading more, which really helped develop my vocabulary.
"I had been jotting down story ideas here and there, almost like journaling, and in 2021 I finally put a first draft on paper.
"That is when things really started to come together. I got connected with an illustrator and got some local support through my church.
"The book is my own take on my dad's story. I named the character Billy, after him.
"It feels a bit surreal The Amazing Bouncing Ball is out now on Amazon, it was a real wow moment.
"I had to be persistent with the book and kept coming back to it in my spare time, but I got there in the end.
"With the help of my wife, Jen, daughter Eden, and the illustrator's feedback, it has turned into a fun story kids and their older siblings can enjoy together."
With engaging narrative and vibrant illustrations, The Amazing Bouncing Ball is a must addition to any young child's bookshelf.
