Crewe halal market and takeaway handed improved food hygiene ratings

A halal market and takeaway in Crewe have been handed upgraded three-star food hygiene ratings, after previously being hit with a one, according to a recent Food Standard Agency (FSA) report.
The FSA Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.
This scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

It gives businesses a rating from zero to five, displayed at their premises and online.
A three-star hygiene rating means standards are 'generally satisfactory' for the business.
All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of Wednesday 2 July:
- Goomet, 112 to 114 Nantwich Road (Chinese takeaway) - three-star (14 May, 2024).

- Sadaf Halal Market, 31 Mill Street (Halal supermarket) - three-star (6 May, 2025).

Goomet had prevously been hit with a one-star hygiene rating in June 2024, with Sadaf Halal Market facing the same fate in May that year.
A food safety officer from Cheshire East Council inspected the Crewe takeaway and shop this year to check they were following food hygiene law and ensuring the food sold was safe to eat.
At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:
- Hygienic food handling - Good (both)
- Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - generally satisfactory - (both)
- Management of food safety - generally satisfactory - (both)
Goomet and Sadaf Halal Market were rated improved three-star ratings based on these checks.
