Former Crewe bookmakers set to become corner shop
By Ryan Parker 2nd Jul 2026
Plans have been submitted to convert an old Crewe betting shop into a new convenience store.
Applicant, Mr G Rajenderan, has submitted a premises licence application to Cheshire East Council on behalf of 16 to 18 Middlewich Street, formerly M. Cook Bookmakers.
The Crewe bookmakers site, which originally opened in 1961, has been empty for over two years.
Mr G Rajenderan wants to open the new Crewe shop 7am to 11pm, seven days a week, with alcohol served.
The premises license application reads: "Notice is hereby given that Mr G Rajenderan has applied to Cheshire East Council in respect of 16-18 Middlewich Street, Crewe.
"This is for a new premises licence to allow the sale of alcohol (for consumption off the premises), 7am to 11pm daily.
Representations to Mr G Rajenderan's application shall be made in writing to Cheshire East Council Licensing Section on or before Wednesday 29 July.
You can also submit your representation by emailing: [email protected].
