ORGANISERS at Crewe's foodbank say donations from the public are still much needed and welcome despite restrictions.

St. Paul's Centre in Hightown is also still taking furniture donations as well as food for St. Paul's Pantry.

St. Paul's normally runs a collection service for unwanted furniture items, which it distributes to people and families in need. That was stopped after the new national lockdown was imposed on January 4, but people looking to donate good quality, fire-compliant furniture, are being urged to bring their items in for the re-use scheme

Volunteers at the foodbank have been busy over the holiday period ensuring those that need help the most get it despite the logistical problems thrown up by the pandemic.

While the centre's main entrance is closed, donations can be made at a collection point at the back of the premises next to Asda's carpark.

Chairman of the trustees Richard Holmes said: "Our staff have been working flat out and people have been standing in for each other.

"People can continue to donate food and good quality furniture. We can take them at the back gate from Monday to Friday."

The food bank continues to operate through the centre's referral process. Referring agents include health visitors, social workers, housing associations and Citizens Advice.

Donations can be made between 9.30am and 3.30pm by pressing the bell at the back entrance to St. Paul's. Remember to wear a mask.
