Flying Scotsman to travel through Crewe this weekend

The iconic Flying Scotsman will head through Crewe this weekend - as the locomotive makes a return journey from London Euston to Chester.

Celebrating her Centenary Year, The Flying Scotsman will leave London Euston in the morning of Saturday 10 June - heading towards Crewe that afternoon.

The locomotive will travel up Camden Bank, continue through Watford Tunnel and into rural Hertfordshire.

The Flying Scotsman is currently celebrating its Centenary Year (Ken Chitty).

It will then stop to pick up further passengers at Milton Keynes, where passengers from Watford Junction will join by service train.

At Hanslope Junction, it will leave the West Coast Main Line (WCML) and take the Northampton loop line where it again stops for passengers.

The journey will continue northwards and pass the Daventry Railfreight Terminal (DIRFT), before rejoining the WCML at Rugby, a further pick up stop.

It then follows the Trent Valley Line to Nuneaton, the final stop to pick up passengers.

The 'Cheshireman' will pass through Lichfield, Rugeley and Shugborough Tunnel.

The Flying Scotsman will travel through Stafford and to our famous railway junction town of Crewe (Wikimedia Commons).

It will then continue northwards through Stafford and to our famous railway junction town of Crewe.

Here it takes the North Wales Coast Line to Chester, where it will stop.

Passengers will have around four hours to explore the Roman city, before it leaves late afternoon for the return journey to London Euston.

Flying Scotsman organisers, released a statement for its journey on June 10.

It read: "The Railway Touring Company appreciate there is considerable interest in Flying Scotsman, but stress that anyone wishing to see Flying Scotsman on route should do so from a safe and permitted place.

The Flying Scotsman will travel through Crewe and stop at Chester - allowing passengers to tour the city (Crewe Heritage Centre).

"Trespassing along rail lines or into prohibited areas of train stations is dangerous.

"It is vital that spectators do not venture onto the railway when Flying Scotsman is on the main line as a full timetable of regular services will also be running.

"For safety, keep away from the railway line."
