The first residents have moved into a major housing development in Crewe, after construction stalled for almost two years.

Danielle, 35, and Anthony, 34, have moved into a four-bedroom home at Signaller's Croft, off David Whitby Way, with their three children.

They are the first family to move into the Basford East development, 14 months after construction restarted.

The couple bought their Crewe home through shared ownership after years of insecure renting, including two Section 21 no-fault evictions.

Danielle said: "It's beautiful. It has felt like home since day one. We also love the design of the homes, they're just different.

"Shared ownership has given us peace of mind and security, and we know our home can't just be taken away.

"We really wanted to be close to Sandbach and Haslington, but to try and buy a four-bedroom house there would be impossible, you're looking at half a million pounds."

Onward Homes originally started work at Signaller's Croft in 2021, but construction stalled in 2023 when contractor Lane End went into administration.

Lovell, part of the Morgan Sindall Group, took over delivery of the first phase in 2025 after being selected by Onward.

The development is planned to provide up to 449 mixed-tenure homes over the coming years, with this current phase including 139 affordable homes.

Interim executive director of growth at Onward, Stephen Heverin, said: "It's really satisfying to welcome our first new residents to Signaller's Croft.

"Our commitment to provide hundreds of affordable homes in this part of Cheshire has never wavered."

Signaller's Croft is Onward's third project with Lovell.

Funding is being provided through Onward's strategic partnership with Homes England, supporting the housing association's plans to build 5,000 homes by 2030.
