Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service tackled a 'significant' Crewe house blaze by a chain restaurant for over 17 hours - with support from Cheshire Police.

The serious fire on Crewe Road, Shavington, adjacent to Hickory's Smokehouse, started around 7pm on Saturday 29 April - lasting until 12:50pm the following day.

Five fire engines from Crewe, Nantwich, Audlem and Lymm quickly arrived at the scene - as well as an aerial ladder platform from Chester.

Hickory's Car Park was used as the rendezvous point for emergency service personnel.

All people inside the Crewe house were accounted for with no injuries.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson at 8:45pm on April 29, said: "Firefighters are tackling a significant blaze in the roof space of a house on Crewe Road, Shavington.

"Owing to complexity of the fire, six appliances are at the scene and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have been deployed into the property. All persons are accounted for.

All people inside the Crewe Road house were accounted for with no injuries (Ryan Parker).

"Police are in attendance to help manage traffic and a local restaurant car park is being used as the rendezvous point for emergency service personnel."

The number of fire engines in attendance was cut by two at 10pm that night.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Firefighters are making good progress, tackling the blaze from inside the house.

"The number of appliances at the scene has been reduced to three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform, which is providing light for the crews to work under.

Hickory's Car Park, Crewe Road, was used as the rendezvous point for emergency service personnel (Ryan Parker).

"Crews are expected to remain at the incident for some time. A further update will be provided in the morning."

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera and a hose reel jet throughout the night to tackle hotspots.

The number of fire engines in attendance was cut by another two at 7am on Sunday 30 April.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident was over at 12:50pm - more than 17 hours after the house blaze started.
