Firefighters tackle deliberate 'disused' building blaze in Crewe for two hours
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to tackle a deliberate blaze at 'disused' building in Crewe - taking over two hours to put out.
The incident on Electricity Street, happened at 11:31am on Wednesday 7 June - involving the building's floor joists.
Two fire engines from Crewe quickly arrived at the scene - assessing the situation.
Crews found the blaze to be inside the buildings wall cavity as well as the floor joists.
The firefighters entered the derelict building using breathing apparatus and used a hose reel jet to out the flames out.
One fire engine was at the scene for approximately two hours - checking the building for further hotspots.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews are attending to a fire at a disused building in Crewe. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and involves the floor joists.
"The fire also appears to be inside the wall cavity.
"Firefighters have entered the building wearing breathing apparatus and are using a hose reel jet to put the fire out."
An update at 1pm, added: "A thermal imaging camera is now being used to check for further hotspots.
"The incident has now been reduced to one fire engine."
A further statement at 4pm, added: "The temperature in the wall cavity has been monitored and this has now lowered.
"Crews have now left the incident after being in attendance for around two and a half hours.."
The disused Electricity Street building is regularly targeted by arsonists.
