FIREFIGHTERS from Crewe were sent to deal with an M6 collision involving a HGV lorry early this morning (Saturday).

The collision took place on the southbound carriageway between junctions 16 and 17 with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sending a major incident unit from Winsford Fire Station to the scene, which was also attended by fire crews from Sandbach and Alsager and paramedics.

On arrival at 6.27am the crews found the collision involved a saloon car and the HGV, which had left the carriageway.

Two lanes of the M6 were temporarily closed while firefighters made the vehicles safe with long queues building up.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "There were no reports of any serious injuries, although one person was treated by paramedics."
