Family-run bakery chain, Chatwins, has started work to move to its former unit, Crewe Nub News understands.

This May, managing director of Chatwins, Edward Chatwin, submitted prior approval for a change of use to the upper two floors of 9 Earle Street to create two self-contained two-bedroom flats.

Mr Chatwin also submitted plans for a new shop door and Chatwins shopfront signage.

Currently operating three stores in Crewe, including 35 Victoria Street, Chatwins has been "considering" relocating across the centre to Earle Street.

The entire former Chatwins shop front on Earle Street has been ripped out with old signage visible (Ryan Parker).

It is understood Chatwins will now be opening again on Earle Street, with works taking place at the site since the second week of September.

Earlier this year, Mr Edward Chatwin told Nub News: "We can confirm we have submitted a planning application to carry out building works to the property that we own on Earle Street.

"We are considering relocating from our shop on Victoria Street, however, no final decisions have been made, and there is currently no confirmed timescale for any changes.

Chatwins owns the building at 9 Earle Street and leases 35 Victoria Street (Ryan Parker).

"We remain committed to serving our customers in Crewe town centre and will provide updates as soon as we are in a position to do so."

Established in 1913, Chatwins supplies the likes of fresh cakes, bread, savouries and coffee across Cheshire, including Crewe, Nantwich, Alsager, Congleton and Northwich.
