Wistaston is gearing up for one of its most popular family events, the annual Model Boat and Duck Race, taking place on Saturday 6 September at Joey the Swan parkland.

From 1pm, visitors can enjoy a wide range of stalls and fun games, with admission to the event free.

Organisers ask everyone to bring cash as many of the smaller stalls and activities won't be able to take card payments.

Two new adults model boat competitions will take place for the first time at Joey The Swan (Jonathan White).

Wistaston's 2025 programme features five competitions to enter and prizes up for grabs. These are:

  • Best Designed Homemade Children's Model Boat – judging at 2:10pm.
  • Children's Model Boat Race (boats max 30cm) – starts 2:30pm. Entries also taken on the day (before 2pm).
  • The Famous Duck Race – starts 3:15pm. Ducks are £2 each and available on the day.
  • NEW for 2025! Best Designed Homemade Adult's Model Boat – judging before the 2pm race.
  • NEW for 2025: Adult Model Boat Race (boats max 30cm) – starts 2pm.

The event is organised by the hardworking volunteer team at Wistaston Community News & Events, who also bring the village other much-loved occasions such as the Village Fete (June), Flower & Produce Show (August), Fireworks Display (1 November 2025) and the Christmas Concert (5 December 2025).

New volunteers are always welcome. It is a great way to get involved in village life and keep these wonderful traditions afloat.

From 1pm on Saturday 6 September, visitors can enjoy a wide range of stalls and fun games, with admission to the event free (Wistaston Community News and Events).

If the weather is misbehaves, the Model Boat and Duck Race will float over to Saturday 13 September instead.
