A GYMGOER has made the most of lockdown easing to lose weight by completing a 30-day fitness challenge at Crewe Lifestyle Centre.

Crewe Lifestyle Centre, run by Everybody Sport and Recreation, opened its doors for swim and gym sessions last month, and on Monday the new roadmap changes meant indoor exercise classes have been able to start up again.

Lucy Massey, from Crewe, has made the most of the centre's reopening by following a strict schedule of fitness activities five days a week.

The 29-year-old says the 30-day health and fitness challenge has transformed his life. It has included attending outdoor exercise classes, taking part in sessions on an online platform Everybody@ Home, swimming sessions and workouts in the gym.

Lucy, who has previously struggled for fitness and admits she lacked motivation, wanted to do the challenge to improve her physical and mental health.

The asthma sufferer struggled with her breathing at the start of her programme, but she says by the second week she was hooked on her fitness journey and has been able to swim up to 60 lengths per session.

"I've been able to do a fitness activity five days a week, I've lost weight through exercise alone. I've found I'm having more energy and best of all I actually love waking up and going to the gym, having a swim or going to a class," said Lucy.

"Mentally, I've really noticed a big difference. I use the gym, swimming and classes as a real stress-buster and that has really helped me come along in leaps and bounds as I'm not one that finds it easy to talk so by being able to release that tension through fitness has definitely been so effective."

She added: "Previously, I was good at motivating others and helping them make plans to achieve their goals but not actually being able to apply them to my own journey. Recently though, I've learnt to appreciate myself more and to work on myself for a change.

"This challenge wasn't just a challenge to me, it was a lifestyle change and I will be constantly setting myself new goals and targets to help me achieve the most out of my body."

After completing the challenge Lucy won three months free membership with Everybody, a Myzone belt and a goody bag.
