A top quiz player from Crewe who appears in the hit TV show, "Eggheads" was sadly beaten by a team from Sandbach.

Legendary Chris Hughes took part in the Mayor of Crewe's fundraising quiz night to raise money for Crewe-based Autism Inclusive.

But the king of quizzes was knocked off top position by the Mayor of Sandbach, Councillor Geraint Price Jones, and his team in a closely fought contest.

Crewe Mayor, Councillor Tom Dunlop, who has chosen Autism Inclusive as his chosen charity, said: "Chris lives locally and it was great to get him involved. Around six or seven teams turned out for the event.

"I am really grateful for those who did come along because it was such awful weather to travel in and be out.

"Those who did come made it a great evening and I'd like to say a big thank you to them."

Cllr Price Jones and his team, who included his mum and dad, Tom and Mary Price Jones, couldn't believe their luck when they went head-to-head against Chris Hughes, winning by one point in a tie-breaker.

Cllr Price Jones said: "It was a great evening and we had a lot of fun. Fortunately I had some good brains on my team, including an old school friend, who helped us win."

The event, which took place at Coppenhall Working Men's Club at the weekend, was organised by Crewe Mayor, Councillor Tom Dunlop
