Edleston Road set to reopen amid Crewe roadworks misery
MOTORISTS in Crewe hit by a series of road closures will get some relief when the ongoing works on Edleston Road end today.
But the town is still in the grip of road misery with a number of schemes, shelved during the the early months of lockdown, springing into life as highways engineers catch up with a backlog of projects.
There are also long-term projects like the Boulderstone's Bridge replacement which has closed off a section of the A530 Middlewich Road, forcing a circuitous diversion around town.
Edleston Road has been closed over the last week as Cheshire East Council contractors undertake resurfacing work.
Traffic has been diverted away from the main town thoroughfare along Mill Street, resulting in congestion on the Tesco roundabout and also up to the junction of Nantwich Road.
The closure has been in force from 9.30am to 3.30pm each day.
There is long-term maintenance work on Westminster Street which will stretch until the end of the year, while the latest batch of roadworks saw Delamere Street closed off between its junctions with the bus station/Tower Way and Queensway this Monday with the work estimated to stretch to October 2.
The Network Rail bridge scheme on Middlewich Road still has some time to run and while the new bridge structure has been put in place the project is far from finished and motorists heading north will have to divert right onto the A532 or divert left onto Pyms Lane if they are driving south.
Traffic from outside the Crewe area is being advised to take a much wider, circuitous route.
The road closure will be in effect until October 23.
Roadworks on Remer Street are due to be completed today, but Gresty Road is still under the cosh of cones and shovel signs while Cherrytree Close will remain shut until September 17 as footpath repairs are finished.
