Crewe's 2022 Christmas Light Switch On has reverted back to its 'traditional' format - with the town centre Festival of Lights display moving to 2023.

Crewe Town Council has confirmed the Crewe Christmas Light Switch On will take place on Saturday (November 26) - with Lumen moving to February 17, 2023.

This decision was agreed by both Crewe Town Council and Lumen Festival of Lights - allowing Crewe's Christmas Light Switch On to revert back to a traditional event.

Crewe Town Council said the community enjoys a traditional Christmas Lights Switch on event (Peter Robinson).

Today (November 2), Crewe Town Council confirmed both events had parted separate ways.

A spokesperson told Nub News: "Evaluation from previous events highlighted that the Crewe's community enjoys a traditional Christmas Lights Switch on event - including family-friendly activities, a visit from Father Christmas and a countdown.

"Lumen remains a popular festival within the town with potential to develop the event moving forward.

"A stand-alone event will provide more opportunities to draw down external funding which will support its future development.

Crewe Town Council believes two separate large events will help to boost footfall in and around Crewe town centre (Peter Robinson).

"Two separate large events will help to boost footfall to Crewe, positively impacting businesses within the town.

Crewe Town Council has confirmed no other events were involved in their decision to separate.

Lumen Festival of Lights has asked for the Crewe community to reflect on the good times of its joint-event.

The Doctor's Tardis was in Memorial Square during Christmas in Crewe last year (Peter Robinson).

The festival is excited for its next chapter around Crewe town centre.

The Crewe Town Council spokesperson added: "February was selected for Lumen 2023 as it is traditionally a quieter period within the town centre.

"Having Lumen within the school half term will undoubtedly support the town's footfall and also provide Crewe families with free-to-access activity during the school holidays."

Lumen Festival of Lights will now take place on February 17, 2023 (Peter Robinson).

Crewe Christmas Light Switch On and Lumen Festival of Lights operated a joint-event in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
